Metrics and Dashboards
Browse the metrics of your semantic model, set them up as cards, and add them to shared dashboards.
Overview
A metric is a measure defined in your semantic model, for example Closed deals or Total amount. The Metrics page lists all of them. You can open a metric to explore it, and turn it into a card on a dashboard.
A card shows one number, or that number split into groups (for example, deal amount by stage). Cards can be filtered by conditions or by a segment. Dashboards are shared: everyone in your organization sees the same dashboards.
Metrics is currently in Beta.
Where to find it
- Metrics — in the left sidebar, click Metrics.
- Dashboards — in the left sidebar, click Dashboard.
Who can do what
Action | Minimum role |
Browse metrics, open a metric, view dashboards | Any member |
Add, edit, duplicate, reorder and remove cards; create, rename and delete dashboards | Member |
If you don't see the Add card buttons, your role doesn't allow changing dashboards. See User Roles & Permissions.
Browse the metrics catalog
On the Metrics page, every metric is a row in a table:
Column | What it shows |
Metric | The metric's name. Hover to see its description. |
Cube | The part of the semantic model the metric belongs to. |
Agg | How the value is calculated, for example COUNT or SUM. |
Format | How the value reads: Number, Currency, Percent, Text, Boolean or Date. |
On dashboards | How many cards, across all dashboards, use this metric. |
- Use Search metrics to filter by name.
- Click a column heading to sort.
- Click a row to open the metric.
- Click + at the end of a row to add the metric to a dashboard straight away.
If the list is empty, add measures to a cube or connect a data source, then click Open semantic model.
Open a metric
The metric page lets you explore a metric before you put it on a dashboard.
- Summary — name, description, aggregation, format and cube. If a metric has no description, click Add to write one in the semantic model.
- Explore — set conditions and Break down by to see how the value changes. Nothing is saved until you add it to a dashboard.
- Definition — how the metric is calculated, with a link to the semantic model.
- Used in — the tables and segments that use the metric.
- Last sync — when the integration behind the metric last synced its data.
When you open a metric from a card, Explore starts with that card's settings.
How to add a metric to a dashboard
You can start from three places:
- Metrics page: click + on a metric row.
- A metric's page: click Add to dashboard. The conditions and breakdown you explored carry over.
- Dashboard page: click Add card, then pick a metric from the list.
Then, in the Add card window:
- Pick a metric from the list on the left (only when you started from Add card).
- Optionally enter a Card title. If you leave it empty, the metric's name is used.
- Choose which rows to count under Conditions (see below).
- Optionally choose Break down by to split the value into its top 5 groups, then pick a Visualization.
- Check the Preview. It shows the card exactly as the dashboard will.
- At the bottom, choose the Dashboard: an existing one, or New dashboard and give it a Name.
- Click Add to dashboard.
Text and yes/no metrics can't be shown as a card, so their + and Add to dashboard buttons are disabled.
Conditions
Conditions limit which rows the metric counts. They apply only to this card. Choose a mode at the top of the section:
- Custom — click Add filter, pick a field, an operator (such as is, contains, after) and a value. Add as many filters as you need.
- Segment — count only within a saved segment. The list shows segments of the same cube as the metric, with their size. Changes to the segment carry over to the card. See Segments Page Overview.
A card has either its own conditions or a segment, not both. Metrics can only be filtered by fields, not by totals, so a segment that filters by a total is greyed out.
Break down by
Pick a field to split the value into groups. The card shows the top 5 groups instead of a single number. Choose how they look:
Visualization | Best for |
Bars | Comparing groups with long names (the default). |
Columns | Comparing a few groups side by side. |
Donut | Showing each group's share of the whole. |
Table | Reading exact values. |
On the dashboard, click View all groups on a card to see the groups that don't fit.
Work with dashboards
On the Dashboard page, the name of the current dashboard sits at the top. Click it to open the dashboard menu.
- Switch — click another dashboard in the list. RevOS remembers your choice in this browser.
- New dashboard — enter a name and click Create.
- Rename — change the name and click Save.
- Delete — confirm to delete the dashboard and every card on it, for everyone in your organization.
A workspace with no dashboards yet is first walked through connecting data and setting up the semantic model. Your first card creates a dashboard named Dashboard, unless you rename it.
Manage cards
Click the actions icon on a card to open its menu:
- Edit card — change the title, conditions, breakdown or visualization, then click Save changes. Use Remove from dashboard in the same window to delete it.
- Duplicate — copy the card; the copy is placed right after the original.
- View metric details — open the metric's page.
- Remove — take the card off the dashboard.
The menu also shows who added the card and who last edited it.
To reorder cards, drag one to a new position. On a touch screen, press and hold first.
When a card can't show its value
A card shows a message instead of a number when the semantic model has changed since it was set up:
Message | What to do |
This metric is no longer available | It was removed or renamed in the semantic model. Remove the card, or add it again from the catalog. |
A field the card uses is gone | Edit the card and remove that filter or breakdown. |
The segment this card uses no longer exists | Edit the card to pick another segment, or remove it. |
This card's segment filters by a total | Edit the card and pick another segment. |
A condition tests something each counted item can have several of | Edit the card and remove that condition. |
A link the card relies on is gone | Edit the card and pick the field again. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I create my own metric here?
No. Metrics are the measures defined in your semantic model. To add or change one, edit the semantic model; it then appears in the catalog.
Do my cards show live data?
Cards read your data when you open the page. The data is only as fresh as the last sync of the integration behind the metric, shown under Last sync on the metric's page and when you hover the time on a card.
Who sees my dashboards?
Everyone in your organization. Dashboards and cards are shared, not personal.
Why don't the groups add up to the total?
When a counted item can belong to several groups (for example, a deal with several products), it appears in each of them, so the groups can add up to more than the total.
Why is the + button disabled?
Either your role can't change dashboards, or the metric is text or yes/no, which can't be shown as a card.
